4.4. Understanding shells

Once you have selected the "TEMPLATE" tab, selecting the "SHELL" tab will allow you to further customize both the player and the Web page that contains it. For a highly customized page, we recommend using a third-party application such as Dreamweaver and using the embedding tool to add the slide show.

The shell is chosen via a drop-down menu.

There are seven default shells included with Soundslides and Soundslides Plus. Following are descriptions:

default
This is the classic player and uses the standard Adobe Flash object/embed code.

iOS_html5
This displays the classic Flash player in browsers that have the Flash plug-in installed, and displays an
HTML 5/JavaScript player otherwise. This allows slide shows to be seen on devices including the iPhone and iPad.

js_embed
This is similar to the default player, but it uses Adobe-recommended javascript code instead of standard embed/object HTML tags.

my_paper
This is an example of a simple Web page template for a newspaper (see example).

sidecaptions
This is similar to the default player, but the captions and credits are outside the player on the right-hand side (see example).

sidecaptions_wider
This is a wider version of the sidecaptions shell above.

swfobject
This is similar to the default player, but it uses the W3C-valid SWFObject embed method.

undercaptions
This is similar to the default player, but the captions and credits appear under the player. Captions are limited to 4 lines of text.
